A History of Firsts
Founded in 1974 in the Pacific Northwest, the Exchange Network was the world’s
first 24-hour ATM shared network, as well as the first to complete both a
coast-to-coast ATM transaction and an international ATM transaction. The ACCEL
Network was founded in 1985 as the Northwest’s regional POS Network. The ACCEL
and Exchange Networks merged in 1991 to provide member organizations with
superior ATM and POS capabilities through a single network membership.
Today, ACCEL/Exchange is an instantly recognized brand with a
significant track record of success. With competitive interchange rates,
national and international acceptance, ACCEL/Exchange continues to
experience tremendous growth in each of its market segments. Membership in ACCEL/Exchange
allows cardholders to benefit from the resources of an industry-leading and
reliable brand, and ensures that issuers and acquirers make their network
participation and dollars count.
